Blackhawk helicopters depart from Grand Ledge for deployment from Fort Hood
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Viewers in West Michigan noticed a number of military helicopters in the skies over West Michigan Friday afternoon.
Newschannel 3 received a number of phone calls and Facebook messages Friday regarding a number of helicopters being seen in the skies near Comstock.
After reaching out to staff with the Michigan Army National Guard, through Fort Custer, Newschannel 3 learned that 10 Blackhawk helicopters from the 1st Battalion 147th Assault Helicopter Battalion were traveling from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Grand Ledge, on their way to Fort Hood for deployment.
According to a release from the Michigan Army National Guard, "the unit will perform a variety of missions to include, medical evacuations, air movements, supply movements, aircraft maintenance and battlefield tracking."
The helicopters left Grand Ledge after a departure ceremony at 10 a.m.
