Beach at Mount Baldy reopens for first time since 2013 accident
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Lake Michigan beach has reopened to the public for the first time since 2013.
Four years ago, a 6-year-old boy was swallowed by a sand dune at Mount Baldy, in Michigan City.
The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore says decaying trees underneath the dunes had created a hole, which collapsed and buried the boy underneath.
He was trapped for hours, but eventually rescued without serious injury.
The beach at Mount Baldy reopens Friday, however the sand dune will not.
