BC City Commission seeks to lure missile defense agency

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Battle Creek City Commission has unanimously approved a resolution urging the Missile Defense Agency to select Fort Custer as the new ground for a potential missile defense system.

Right now, it's one of 4 bases named a finalist by the Department of Defense.

The training center is now being evaluated for potential environmental impact.

The agency says it encourages public involvement and will hold public meetings about the review.

Congresman Fred Upton says the project could bring billions of dollars and countless jobs to the area if Battle Creek is chosen.
