PLAINWELL, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - One West Michigan church wants to make sure children in need are ready for school.
It's called the Backpack Project. Earlier this week, volunteers at the Friendship Wesleyan Church in Plainwell stuffed 200 backpacks with school supplies.
Saturday morning, they handed those backpacks out to area kids.
The supplies and clothes were donated by area churches and community members.
Organizers say the project helps, not only ease the financial burden on parents, but helps students start the school year off with the right attitude.
