Backpack Project helping families in need
PLAINWELL, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Want to help prepare students in need as they get ready for school?
The Friendship Wesleyan Church in Plainwell is asking for your help doing just that with their Backpack Project.
The project aims to meet the needs of over 200 children in the community.
Thursday, the church is hosting a packing and set-up party. Volunteers will be asked to help put school supplies and clothes donated by area churches and the community into backpacks.
Organizers say this helps not only ease the burden on the parents, but helps kids start the school year off with the right attitude.
"And kids when they have things for school makes them feel good and they're ready, they're prepared and it just helps them grow," said Coordinator Tammy Steinhauser.
Thursday night's event starts at 7:00 at the Friendship Wesleyan Church.
There will be brunch for volunteers.
Then on Saturday morning they will giving away the stuffed backpacks to families in need.
Volunteers who want to help with the giveaway should show up to the church at 9:30.
