UPDATED: Suspect arraigned in Grand Rapids shooting death
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A 24-year-old man was arraigned Monday in connection with a shooting death last week.
On April 19, officers were called out just before 12:30 p.m. to the 600 block of Letellier SW, following a report of an unresponsive male on the ground. The man died shortly thereafter.
Autopsy results out the next day show that the 54-year-old man--identified as Barry Roger Cooper--died as a result of a gunshot wound, and police said the case was being treated as a homicide.
At the time, police stated that the suspect was in custody, but that identification was being withheld pending arraignment.
Monday morning, 24-year-old Derin Stephens-Roy was arraigned on open murder and felony firearm charges related to the case.
A preliminary exam is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9.
