Artist nearing completion on mural to honor Kalamazoo history
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A local artist is putting the finishing touches on a mural meant to honor some of Kalamazoo's history.
Patrick Hershberger--also known as "Bonus Saves"--is painting under the Veterans Memorial Park Bridge in downtown Kalamazoo.
The piece is about 20 feet wide and 7 feet tall, and illustrates wildlife native to the Kalamazoo River, the history of the river and recent environmental concerns like PCB contamination--and will finish with a tribute to World War II veteran Emma "Big Momma" Didlake.
The Michigan native passed away last year at 110 years old, not long after we rode along with her to Washington, D.C., where she was honored by President Obama.
A ribbon cutting is planned for the mural October 15th at Arcadia Ales, in Kalamazoo.
