AMC Theater will be moving into the former Alamo Drafthouse
KALAMAZOO, Mich. —
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Downtown Kalamazoo will once again have a movie theater.
City officials confirmed to Newschannel 3 that an AMC movie theater is slated to open toward the end of the year.
The AMC theater will occupy the site of the former Alamo Drafthouse, which closed in April.
Kalamazoo city leaders and AMC have confirmed that this is a done deal. Leaders say the company has agreed to lease on the building.
An AMC spokesperson says the theater is scheduled to open by late fall. Construction crews are already u work to remodel the building's interior.
The company tells us it's planning a full-theater renovation, including plans to install what AMC calls "signature reclining seating."
Plans also call for a drink menu, including wine and beer options.
"I'm psyched," said downtown worker Derek Hall. "I just love those chairs. I love the prices. I love the experience."
AMC has 346 theaters in North America. Kalamazoo will be their third location in West Michigan.
The other AMC theaters are in Holland and Grand Rapids.
