Allegan man sentenced after burning child with lighter

ALLEGAN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Allegan man, accused of burning his child with a cigarette lighter, has been sentenced.

30-year-old Joshua Lee Newton pleaded guilty in June to second-degree child abuse, but the charge of third-degree child abuse was dismissed.

Michigan State Police Troopers arrested Newton in Allegan in March, after they say he burned his girlfriend's 4-year-old son with a lighter.

He was sentenced to serve between 29 and 120 months in jail, with credit for 152 days served.
