Dog owners and their lovable furry friends gathered at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center on Saturday for the annual West Michigan Apple Blossom Cluster AKC Dog Show.

Cluster coordinator Kevin Nieboer said through five days of shows, 155 of the 198 AKC-registered breeds were in attendance to compete in obedience, rally, dock diving and other similar competitions. The event, which is scheduled to last until around 5p.m. on Monday, brought dog owners from not only across the country, but across the world.

"States? We're not talking about states," Nieboer laughed. "There are dogs here from Canada...there are dogs here from Europe, there are dogs here from South America and a dog here from Russia. This is a worldwide thing."

Nieboer said there's no need to sell this event short as they are typically the top-dog of AKC shows.

"In terms of AKC shows throughout the year, we routinely rank top 10," Nieboer said.

Even if you're an inexperienced dog owner or maybe looking to become a first-timer, Nieboer says this would be a great place to come and ask questions.

"These people are breeders and owners. In many cases, they've bred generation of the dogs they have. These people are the subject matter experts on dogs," Nieboer said. "This is the place to be."
