6-hour standoff leads to arrest in Grand Rapids

A man is arrested after a 6-hour standoff in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 6-hour standoff in Grand Rapids ends early Saturday morning with the arrest of one man.

Right now, Grand Rapids Police are trying to figure out if the 911 call that initially sent them to the scene was legitimate.

This all started with an anonymous 911 call that came in around 9:30 p.m. Friday night. Police said the caller reported a man had a gun to someone's head, then the woman quickly hung up.

GRPD called its SWAT team and negotiators to the 200 block of Leonard Street NE. Two of the three apartments inside the home were evacuated, but police were unable to confirm if anyone was inside that third apartment.

Officers shut down streets to secure the area while they continued to investigate. After nearly 6 hours, police got a search warrant to enter the home where they found only one man inside.

Police arrested the man just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning. His name is not being released at this time.

He's charged with resisting and obstructing, pending further investigation.
