2 arrested in Sunny Mart armed robbery; police searching for third suspect
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) —
Two of the three suspects involved in last week's armed robbery at Sunny Mart in the 2000 block of Cork Street in Kalamazoo have been arrested, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
On October 7, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Sunny Mart in the 2000 block of Cork Street in Kalamazoo.
Three suspects entered brandishing handguns and demanding money. One clerk was assaulted during the altercation. All three suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
Since the crime, investigators identified suspects involved in the crime. Two of those suspects were arrested late Wednesday afternoon and have been charged with armed robbery.
Detectives were able to gather information regarding 16-year-old juvenile as one of the suspects. They located the 16-year-old Kalamazoo resident in an apartment on the west side of Kalamazoo.
Authorities found a loaded handgun and suspected marijuana with the juvenile, who is being lodged at the Kalamazoo Juvenile Detention Center.
The second suspect, a 20-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was located by investigators.
The suspect was recently paroled for a previous armed robbery. Investigators conducted a search warrant where the suspect was located. Inside investigators found a .40 caliber handgun, ammunition and body armor, all of which was used in the armed robbery, according to police.
The suspect is currently lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
