10th annual Turkey Trot held in Kalamazoo Thanksgiving morning
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Some across West Michigan got a nice workout in before enjoying their Thanksgiving meal.
This is the 10th year for the Kalamazoo Area Runners Turkey Trot.
The 5K got underway at 9 a.m. at Portage West Middle School.
Even a little bit of snow didn't discourage runners from getting together for this annual tradition.
"The Turkey Trot idea, it just brings a lot of people together. A lot of people are traveling with their families. So when they come to visit their families, what better thing to do on Thanksgiving morning than to go out and run so you can stuff your face later and not feel bad about it," said runner Morgan Tininey
Every year, organizers encourage participants to donate to local charities serving families in need, through the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, and the Portage Community Center.
