A motorist is dead after a suffering from a head-on collision on Coates Grove Road east of Woodland Road around 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning, Sheriff Dar Leaf confirms.

The driver of two-passenger minivan died at the scene of the incident. Three children were involved in the accident, one being in the minivan and two in the sedan. A 3-year-old from the minivan was transported to DeVos Children's Hospital by medical officials, but Leaf says all children involved were wearing their proper safety restraints, therefore were not critically injured. Another two passengers from the sedan were transported by family to receive medical attention.

Leaf says the sun could be a factor in what caused the accident, but the investigation is still underway. Coates Grove Road remains closed until further notice.

Michigan State Police, Barry County Central Dispatch, Castleton/Maple Grove/Nashville EMS, Woodland Fire Department, Hastings Fire Department and Hastings Mercy Ambulance assisted throughout the incident.
