The I-Team has been investigating numerous phone scams directed at the most vulnerable in our community.
It's tough to put a number on it, but we know the amount of money Americans lose to online and phone scams is easily in the hundreds of millions of dollars every year.
That's why the Newschannel 3 I-Team embarked on a project in October of last year to hunt down some of these bad guys.
We investigated to the point where we could actually put a face on the people who were taking money from people in West Michigan through a Craigslist auto scam.
The fraudsters were based in New York and we went there to ask the police for help.
We didn't get any help, but as a result of our work and partnership with Moneygram, we spared 30 other victims around the country from the same scam.
Now, the I-Team is back to alert you to several phone scams that are happening to people in West Michigan right now.
Newschannel 3 Chief Investigative Reporter David Bailey has more on the story in our special report, Digital Deception.
