Battle over propose sports complex in St. Joseph Co. heads to court with lawsuit filed
THREE RIVERS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An already contentious court battle over a proposed sports complex our area is ratcheting up.
The Newschannel 3 I-Team was first to uncover the legal battle over the proposed sports fields in Saint Joseph County.
And now, the I-Team is learning the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners is suing the city of Three Rivers, who originally wanted to build it.
In the lawsuit, St. Joseph County is demanding that Three Rivers return $755,000 it essentially gave to to the city to build the complex.
A court recently ruled against Three Rivers's plans, saying it illegally took property where the complex was to be built.
In the court action, St. Joseph County Commissioners say since it now appears the sports complex will not be built, the city of Three Rivers should have never taken the $755,000 from the county.
