Lawmakers looking at growing national heroin epidemic
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Lawmakers are looking at what the CDC is calling a growing national heroin epidemic.
A Senate committee is holding a hearing on the heroin addiction and how cartels may be connected to what they are calling a public health crisis.
According to the CDC, heroin use has increased among men and women, most all age groups, and across all income levels.
At least four officials are expected to speak at the hearing, including the Mayor of Orange County, Florida, who says her community has seen a staggering 600 percent increase in heroin deaths since 2011..
