Study: You may share genetic link with friends

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Have you ever thought about what makes your friends your friends?

A new study says it might go beyond shared interest and their sense of humor.

The new research, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, shows we all may be genetically linked to our friends.

They found that we accidentally share more DNA with them than we do with strangers.

It turns out we all share about 1 percent of our genes with friends.

That means we are as genetically similar to friends as we are to our fourth cousins, or people who share a great-great-great grandparent.
