Study: Parents have trouble figuring out proper dose of allergy meds
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A warning to parents who give their kids allergy medicine: a new study shows you may be doing things that could potentially cause problems.
The study says parents have trouble figuring out the right dose of allergy medications to give to their children.
It also shows some parents use adult versions of the drugs instead of child versions.
Doctors in Michigan say doses greater than recommended for children can result in more severe side effects, such as excessive drowsiness and headaches.
According to this poll, 18 percent of parents do not check the expiration date on allergy medicines before giving them to their children.
