Study: 2 in 100 Americans have an artificial joint

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - New numbers coming out Tuesday morning are showing how prevalent joint surgery has become.

It's the first study of its kind.

Doctors say nearly two percent of all Americans. That's two of every 100 Americans now have an artificial hip, knee or some other joint.

Lead by the Mayo Clinic, researchers say the numbers are remarkable.

Results will be reported Tuesday at an American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Conference in New Orleans.
