Researchers say getting second opinion can lead to a better diagnosis
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - When the worst happens, it can be hard to think about trusting another doctor.
But new research finds getting a second opinion could give you a better chance to survive.
The Mayo Clinic finds as many as 88 percent of patients that get a second opinion go home with a new or better diagnosis.
And 21 percent get a noticeably different diagnosis.
On the flip side, the Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice found only 12 percent of patients get confirmation their original diagnoses was complete and correct.
