Researchers find gut bacteria that may prevent food allergies
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Researchers say they may have a gut bacteria that may someday prevent food allergies.
It's call "clostridia."
Researchers found it appears to minimize the likelihood that rodents will become allergic to peanuts.
They also say supplementing rodents with probiotics containing the bacteria also reversed the allergy later in life.
It's a huge step in research, but more is needed.
Food allergies among children rose 18-percent from 1997 to 2007.
