Death toll in Ebola outbreak passes 1,000

WEST AFRICA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The World Health Organization says the death toll in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has passed 1,000.

Among those victims now is a Spanish missionary priest Miguel Pajares.

The hospital in Madrid confirms he passed away Tuesday morning.

He was evacuated from Liberia last week after testing positive for Ebola.

Authorities have recorded close to 1,900 suspected, probable or confirmed cases.

Meantime, the Liberian government says it will soon receive doses of an experimental Ebola drug.

The pharmaceutical company behind Z-Mapp says it sent its whole remaining supply of the drug to Liberia at no cost to the nation.

The drug is currently being used on two American aid workers who are said to be recovering
