BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are investigating whether a possible recall caused an SUV to crash into a tobacco shop in Battle Creek.

They say 17-year-old Trevor Preston Long accelerated through the intersection of Riverside and Columbia Avenue, without braking, crashing into The Tobacco Shoppe.

"I was passing him. I looked and I saw the car flying passed me going the opposite way," said a caller to a 9-1-1 dispatcher shortly after the crash. "I'm on my way to work and I looked in my rearview mirror and they went through the window."

Long was airlifted to Bronson Hospital with head injuries--he's listed in serious condition.

The owner of The Tobacco Shoppe says their check-out center is destroyed, but he's thankful no one was inside when the car came through.

The Police Lieutenant says they are trying to rule out whether Long's RAV-4 is under a Toyota recall for sticking accelerators.
