LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - State officials have begun a safety review of Michigan's network of oil pipelines, focusing mainly on Enbridge Energy's Line 5.

The line was installed in the 1950's, and runs beneath the straits of Mackinac, separating the state's two peninsulas.

Enbridge was asked by the Michigan Petroleum Pipeline Task Force to provide a review of the line, to address public concerns about the potential impacts of a spill.

The task force is now reviewing their response.

Enbridge has been under scrutiny since July 2010 when 800,000 gallons of oil spilled into the Kalamazoo River, making it one of the largest inland oil spills in U.S. history.
