BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - South Kendall Street near Battle Creek's Public Works Department building will be closed Thursday as Amtrak replaces a railroad crossing.

This is part of a larger project by Amtrak to replace crossings between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.

Amtrak hopes to achieve high-speed service with the new crossings accommodating speeds of up to 110-miles-per-hour.

Each crossing is being torn out and replaced with new wood ties, stone, rail and a concrete driving surface.

While Kendall is closed, a detour will be in place.
