OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan firefighter is receiving a national award -- for his efforts in training local fire and rescue workers.

Capt. Chip Everett of the Oshtemo Fire and Rescue Department is receiving the 2014 Training Officer Award.

The award is given out annually at the Fire and Rescue International Conference in Dallas.

It's the first time someone from West Michigan has won the award. It recognizes Everett for his efforts in giving quality training and developing programs, both locally and regionally.
