WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES

UNTIL 8 PM

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES remain for all of West Michigan for an accumulation of snow followed by sleet and freezing rain and even plain rain.  The ADVISORIES last until 8 PM everywhere save for Berrien, Cass, St. Joe, and Branch counties where the expiration time is 1 PM.  Snowfall ranges from 1" to 3" near and south of I-96 including Kalamazoo.  North of I-96, amounts may be greater in a range from 2" to 4".  Once snow transitions to freezing rain, ice accumulations of 1/10" perhaps upwards of 2/10" are possible.  Plus, secondary and back roads are likely to remain icy even when air temperatures reach the middle 30s this afternoon.  Please be careful traveling!

Local wait times at VA hospital story image

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Thursday night, Congress wrapped up legislation to revamp the Veterans Affairs Department.

It's in response to the scandal over delays in care at VA medical facilities nationwide.

The Senate approved a $16-billion bill that will help veterans get the treatment they need without major wait times. It now heads to President Obama for his signature.

Here in West Michigan, initial reports showed the VA Hospital in Battle Creek ranked the worst in the state for patient wait times.

Newschannel 3's Julia Fello spoke one-on-one with the hospital's public affairs officer, who wants to set the record straight in the video report above.
