FDA warning against online scammers regarding ebola outbreak

Updated: Wednesday, August 20, 2014

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The FDA is warning about online scammers, taking advantage of fears about the ebola virus.

So far, nearly 2,000 people have been infected with the disease in West Africa, and more than 1,300 have died.

But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the virus does not pose a significant threat to Americans.

However, that isn't stopping the supplement powders and ebola prevention kits, claiming to fight the virus, from popping up online.

The FDA says it's watching the scams, and will take action to protect consumers.
