10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with for your weather today and always!

Car-train collision in Kalamazoo County story image

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - There is a significant police presence in the area of 4th Street and West M., near Stadium Drive, responding to a car struck by an Amtrak train.

A passenger on the train has told Newschannel 3 that the conductor informed passengers that there were no fatalities in the crash, but there is a heavy presence from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff'S Department.

Kalamazoo County deputies say that a man and a woman were driving down 4th Street, which was actually blocked off due to road construction--including the tracks.

Deputies told Newschannel 3 that the driver went around the barricade and got stuck in the tracks that were under construction.

Upon realizing they were stuck, the man and woman supposedly jumped out of the car.

The train was carrying 180 passengers and was traveling at around 60 miles per hour when it struck the car, slicing it in half.

As of around 10:45 p.m., the train was moving again.

Newschannel 3 has a crew on the scene, and will continue to update this story as the situation develops.
