ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An 8-year old boy is listed in serious condition after crashing his bicycle into a car.

It happened Wednesday around 5pm in Nottawa Township.

St. Joseph County Deputies say a Buick passenger car, driven by Joyce Waltke, 79, from Sturgis, was heading southbound on M66 approaching M86.

At that moment the 8-year old Centerville boy on a bicycle attempted to cross M66 from M86 to Bonham Rd Eastbound.

The child did not see the car and pulled out in front of it.

Deputies say Waltke attempted to avoid the collision but the bicycle side-swiped her vehicle.

The juvenile sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by Aircare to Bronson Hospital.

Waltke and her passenger were uninjured.

Deputies say alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.
