DENSE FOG ADVISORY

Until 10 AM

The National Weather Service issues a DENSE FOG ADVISORY for all of West Michigan until 10 AM.  Fog may linger in some locations until midday.  Light winds, ample moisture near the ground are encouraging the formation of dense fog.  Because temperatures are near freezing, a light coating of ice may form on some road surfaces making them slick.  Please keep it safe this morning as you head back to work and school.

New high-tech buoy launched in Lake Michigan

Updated: Thursday, July 31, 2014

NEAR SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Meteorologists now have a new tool to measure conditions along West Michigan's lake shore.

A high-tech weather and wave monitoring buoy was deployed about two miles off the South Haven shore, this week.

It measures wave heights, air and water temperature and wind speeds.

Similar buoys are used elsewhere, but this one fills a 70 mile gap.

The information from the buoy is collected in real time and is viewable by the public.

There are also images and video clips that are updated hourly.
