Wyoming named most expensive state to drive story image

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's a lot cheaper to ride a horse in the cowboy state than it is to drive a car.

According to BankRate.com, Wyoming is the most expensive state in the U.S. to operate a car, costing an average of $2,700 a year.

That's largely because people there drive 68 percent more than the typical American, and spend more on gas.

Michigan isn't far behind Wyoming, as it ranks 9th on the list, at $2,400.

The least expensive state is Iowa, because car insurance rates are so low.
