WIND ADVISORY

10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with wwmt.com for your weather today and always!

US health official: Ebola has 'upper hand'

Updated: Tuesday, August 26, 2014

MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) - The head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Ebola is winning right now in West Africa but the tide can be turned.

Dr. Tom Frieden is on a visit this week to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the three hardest hit countries.

Frieden says that while the Ebola virus that has killed more than 1,400 people in West Africa has the "upper hand" right now, experts have the tools to stop it.

The current outbreak is the largest ever and experts have struggled to contain it. The disease has overwhelmed already struggling health systems in some of the world's poorest countries.

Frieden expresses optimism that the outbreak can be contained, but says it will require "tremendous attention to every detail."
