Police: Suspect posed as cab driver, attempted to rape woman in front of her children

Updated: Thursday, August 28, 2014

NEW YORK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A manhunt is underway for a man who posed as a cab driver then attempted to rape a woman in front of her children.

New York City police released surveillance video of the disturbing incident.

Officers say the driver picked up the 26-year-old woman and her three children ages 1, 3 and 5 early Sunday morning.

He took them to their location, then tried to sexually assault the mother while her 1-year-old child was sitting on her lap.

As the woman attempted to escape, the suspect elbowed the 5-year-old and tried taking the 3-year-old before driving away.

Police are now looking for a Hispanic man in his 40s.
