Man rescues woman and baby from burning apartment building story image

ST. PAUL, Minn. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Some incredible and dramatic video is coming out after a Mnnesota apartment building went up in flames.

"Hey they're in here, there are people in there," yelled one witness.

"I just ran up to the window, shoved the screen in and pushed the blinds aside." Richard Johann didn't heed calls from police to stand back. Instead, he ran toward the fire in St. Paul, helping to save a mother and baby trapped inside.

After grabbing the baby from the burning building, he helped the mother jump to safety.

"I did it without even thinking it wasn't a thought, it was just an action," said Johann.

The homeowner is the sister of the woman rescued. She was able to thank Johann personally.

Meanwhile, the fire has been ruled arson. Witnesses say they saw two boys playing with lighter fluid near the porch at the time of the fire.

So far, no arrests have been made.
