WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Corn and soybean farmers are anxiously waiting on the government's decision to accept a new version of popular herbicide to fight tougher and more resistant weeds.

Critics say more research is needed on the effects of the herbicide and they are concerned it could endanger public health.

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to rule this fall on Dow Agro-Sciences' application to market Enlist.

It's a new version of a herbicide that's been around since the 1940s.
