(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The last surviving crew member of the Enola Gay has died.

Theodore "Dutch" Vankirk was just 24 when he served as navigator on the B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb over Hiroshima August 6th, 1945.

His son says he died Monday of natural causes.

He was 93.

In an interview at the 60th anniversary Vankirk said dropping the bomb was necessary, but he wished all the world's atomic bombs would be abolished.
