CHINA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Nearly 400 people have been killed from a strong earthquake in China.

People were running into the street as the 6.1 magnitude quake hit late Sunday.

More than 1,800 people are hurt and there are dozens more missing in remote areas that rescuers have not yet been able to reach.

The earthquake also reportedly damaged or destroyed more than 40,000 homes.

Thousands of soldiers are now in the disaster zone.

Heavy rainfall in the region is making rescue efforts even more difficult.
