KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's time for new school shoes for Kalamazoo County students.

The First Day Shoe Fund non-profit group is giving away footwear.

Students will be individually fitted for a brand new pair, just in time for school.

The fund gives away athletic shoes, so that students can take part in gym and recess.

This is the 8th summer for distribution.

The shoe fund director says donors and volunteers make the event possible.

Last year, the group gave away over 2,500 pairs of shoes.

To be fitted for shoes, students must be in Kindergarten through third grade, attend Kalamazoo Public Schools, and qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Students have two chances to request shoes.

They will be distributed Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Milwood Middle School on Lovers Lane in Kalamazoo.

Each student will get a new pair of socks as well.
