Researchers: 'Spring forward' can have health risks

Updated: Friday, March 7, 2014 |
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Spring ahead not only steals away an hour of our precious sleep, but it can be dangerous.

According to Bronson Hospital, research has shown an increase in car accidents and heart attacks in the first few days following daylight saving time.

The time change disturbs your sleep cycle, which according to a Bronson sleep health physician, has negative impacts on your health.

It can impair your reflexes and cause an increase in clotting of the blood vessels in the heart.

To prevent the effects of the time change, physicians suggest going to bed 10 to 15 minutes earlier each night for a few days before the clock changes.

So, you might want to start today.
