American Academy of Pediatrics endorses same-sex marriage

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - America's top pediatrics group has endorsed same-sex marriage.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says on its website Thursday that a stable relationship between parents regardless of sexual orientation contributes to a child's health and well-being.

Members of the group say nearly 2 million kids are being raised by gay or lesbian parents.

Only nine states and the District of Columbia have legalized same-sex marriage.
