DENSE FOG ADVISORY

Until 10 AM

The National Weather Service issues a DENSE FOG ADVISORY for all of West Michigan until 10 AM.  Fog may linger in some locations until midday.  Light winds, ample moisture near the ground are encouraging the formation of dense fog.  Because temperatures are near freezing, a light coating of ice may form on some road surfaces making them slick.  Please keep it safe this morning as you head back to work and school.

Researchers: Stress, fatty foods don't mix

Updated: Monday, July 14, 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new study shows that those who indulge in comfort foods can end up paying a heavy price.

Researchers say women who eat fatty foods while under stress might gain more weight because stress can cause your body to burn fewer calories.

Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center led the study.

THey tested nearly 60 women by assessing their stress levels and feeding them a high fat meal for breakfast.

Then they watched their metabolism through the day.

"What we found is that they burned less calories over the 7 hours after the meal when they had a stressor in their lives the day before the meal," explained Martha Belury, PhD, with the medical center.

"The difference was about 104 calories, which is no big deal for a single day, but if you took that across a year, it could be almost 11 pounds," said Janice Kiecold-Glaser, PhD.

Researchers say the high fat meal they served contained 930 calories and 60 grams of fat--about the same as a large cheeseburger and fries.
