DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The first American-made Ford Fusion rolled off a Detroit-area assembly line Thursday.
1,400 new employees were hired at the Flat Rock plant to keep up with demand for the Fusion.
The new hires are part of the automaker's plan to bring jobs to the U.S. that were previously located in other countries.
Ford says Fusion is the first sedan to offer gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and that's boosting demand.
Ford says sales for the Fusion are up 13 percent this year.
