Transgender teen, star of TLC reality show, getting her own doll
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - This week, a transgender teen is blazing yet another trail on store shelves.
She's getting her own doll.
16-year-old Jazz Jennings stars in TLC's reality series "I Am Jazz."
Now, a doll based on her likeness will debut next week at the New York Toy Show, which will be the first ever LGBT doll.
Advocates say they think it will make a huge impact on kids, both in teaching them acceptance and helping those who may be struggling.
"What we are talking about here is gender identity, and saying if you're a transgender child, you are OK, and fine just the way you are," said Drian Juarez, with the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
The 18-inch doll will have a genderless plastic mold, typical of most dolls.
It's expected to be released in July, for around $90.
