Quick Recap Of Summer Vacation - 09/04/13
A week off will do a lot of good. I get rest, lots of rest. But not just that, it's consecutive nights of deep sleep, and that means dreaming. My family lives just north of Philly. I was born in Philly; we vacation at the Jersey Shore (Avalon) because it's easy for my Mom to travel a few hours in the car versus something farther away. We've been going for several years. The beach is nice and clean. The water temperatures were in the lower 70s. Yes, I went in, once, and got a little wet. It was fun and relaxing. I thought this was the perfect place to post a few photos. They start with Jen, my sister, and me celebrating my 32nd birthday by taking a few, silly 'selfies' ... the camera was probably too close. Sorry!
Then ... my Dad and I were fortunate enough to take in Penn State's first game of the season. We both went to Penn State. He's a diehard fan, I really like them. However, my deepest passions lie with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's a photo from during warm-ups at Met-Life stadium, where the Giants play, and then one of real game action. Penn State won a game that was tighter than it should have been over Syracuse 23-17. The highlight of the vacation was the 2nd annual 5K race. I was happy because I actually followed the right race course this year. Last year I made some dumb moves that took me on the 7 mile course rather than the more manageable 3.25 mile course. I'm an idiot. My time of 24:27 was decent, each mile was under 8mins. I think I can do better. Jen improved significantly over last year, by more than 7 mins. My Dad came in just under 40mins with a combination of running and walking. He tore or strained a hamstring during, which significantly slowed him. I'm happy to report he's on the mend.
I hope you enjoy these pictures! Thanks for reading my blog: Your Port in the Storm!
