More Americans saying no to soft drinks

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - More and more Americans are starting to say no to soft drinks.

Over the past year, spending on the beverages went down more than three percent.

Diet soda sales went down even more, at 7 percent.

It could be because Americans now have more choices when it comes to what to drink, like juice, sports drinks, and flavored waters.

The beverage industry is taking note that consumers want natural sweeteners and several companies are working on new natural sweeteners that are low calorie.

For now, however, Americans are opting for good old water.
